Aerospace industry: orders doubled thanks to logistics optimization

Sector: Aerospace industry

Location: Piedmont (Italy)

Request

An aerospace company in Piedmont requested our support to optimize its logistics facilities, improving storage management in order to reduce errors and problems related to the order management.

Project development

The Di Massa team evaluated the specific needs of the customer through an analysis that, starting from the examination of the existing structures in the company and the current handling process, would allow to identify the most effective solution to optimize the management of stored goods.

We therefore suggested a miniload, an automated warehouse equipped with a lightweight stacker crane that allows high-speed handling for the storage and picking of containers and/or KLT boxes with a maximum weight of 50 kg, ensuring a considerable reduction in pick-up and storage times and an overall performance improvement.

The integration of this machine in the company did not require any change of WMS by the customer, who was able to keep what he had in use by interfacing directly with the first level of the machine, thus simplifying the process of inserting the new machine in operability.

Customer benefits

In a short time since the installation of the automated warehouse, the customer has doubled the  daily orders and significantly reduced storage costs.

Warehouse management has been successfully optimized, drastically reducing errors and problems related to order management.

In addition, the customer was able to keep the WMS already in use, making it easy and immediate to integrate the miniload into the storage dynamics.
