The current health situation has highlighted the need to intervene with the workplace sanitization to ensure health and safety: let’s see what it means to sanitize the warehouse and what are the advantages of this procedure.

Sanitization is an intervention that consists of a set of actions aimed at eliminating bacteria and contaminants that cannot be removed with the ordinary cleaning.

This procedure is carried out using sanitizing products that bring the microbial load within optimal hygiene standards, in relation to the intended use of the spaces concerned.

In order to guarantee maximum effectiveness, sanitization must always be preceded by cleaning.

The importance of this practice has also been established in Legislative Decree 81/08 on the protection of workers’health and safety in the workplace, which states the need to periodically sanitize closed work environments to make the spaces healthy and safe for workers.

If carried out at regular intervals and in a manner appropriate to the features of the structure, there are several advantages in sanitizing the logistics area:

– it reduces the risk of incurring possible fines and imprisonment caused by non-compliance with the law in force

– it simplifies the activities of prevention and containment of bacterial and viral load

– it improves indoor air quality

– it eliminates bad smells

– it guarantees healthy and microbiologically safe work environments

– if carried out in the production areas of the agri-food industry, it improves food conservation

– it makes it possible to reduce the use of chemical detergents in daily cleaning activities

– it saves time and money for cleaning work

The sanitization has become one of the main topics of this period because of the contingent situation, so much so that funds have been allocated by the government to allow all companies to make their spaces safe and healthy: the Decree Law of 17 March 2020, n.18, so called “Cura Italia”, provides among the economic measures to combat the spread of the coronavirus a tax credit equal to 50% of the expenses incurred in 2020 for the sanitization of work environments and equipment.
